Yorkshire scenes theme of art exhibition

Artist Laura Wallace

Ilkely-based artist Laura Wallace is preparing for her first major exhibition in Yorkshire.

Laura will be exhibiting at the Chantry House Art Gallery in Ripley, near Harrogate, from November 1. She has already held solo shows in London, but this is her first Yorkshire exhibition since returning here two years ago.

"Yorkshire, together with the Orkneys where my husband Mark is from, has always been my spiritual home and the majority of paintings I will exhibit at Chantry House will be Yorkshire Scenes,"

Says Laura. "Since returning to my home county, I have been inspired by its wonderful countryside, especially the beauty of the Dales through the seasons, from bluebell woods to snow scenes, and the gorgeous flowers in my garden."

Laura worked for the Harrods interior Design Team, managing a range if international projects, before attending Heatherleys School of Fine Art. She says. "I am hugely influenced by the Scottish Colourists and am also inspired by the Impressionists - I love Cezanne's use of complementary colour and the fragility of Manet's final flower paintings.

"My main themes are seascapes, flowers and landscapes." Laura works mostly in oil and her flower paintings are at the centre of her work.
